'With the passing of each and every year, Camp Bestival edges ever closer to perfection and whilst adversaries falter economically; organisationally; hopelessly you sense Rob and Josie have enough plans and pioneering strategies in the brain bank to perpetuate these unspeakably Good Times for decades to come. All it’s cracked up to be and immeasurable amounts beyond, is and was this one.’

Losing count of how many unforgettable weekends Rob da Bank has lavished on us now, and this year’s Camp Bestival down in Dorset was no exception. Highlights both multitudinous and multifarious came from Chic & Hot Chip & Henry Rollins & Little Dragon & Jenny O

'The subdued sibling packed off to Lulworth Castle, Dorset in order that the mildly hedonistic peccadillos of its more established elder on the Isle of Wight be evaded, Camp Bestival is, as Sly Stone once proclaimed, a Family Affair. And it’s arguably all the better for it, as this year’s bill coincidentally boasts nigh on every original R&B stalwart (provided both alive and active, and just shy of Sly), whether that be in the dreadlocked form of Nile Rodgers or the somewhat more well-rounded shape of Al McKay. Last year’s bash was something of an emphatic sensation and next month’s, taking place between 26th-29th (July), looks little different. Here be our subjective highlights in the usual Fest Bests format..’

Dots & Dashes’ Camp Bestival 2012 Fest Bests…

Genuinely one of the most frolicsome festivals we were fortunate enough to experience last summer Camp Bestival, set in the unfathomably fantastical surrounds of Dorset’s Lulworth Castle, is hinging itself firmly into the estival schedules of many. The initial line up announcement for the 2012 jamboree again aroused all manner of excitement with a returning Hot Chip, an increasingly riotous Little Dragon, the ever sublime Lianne La Havas, and the perennially superlative Adam Ant (& The Good The Mad and The Lovely Posse) all heaved onto the bill between July 26th-29th. There’s also the occasion to chew the (bacon) fat with Black Flag behemoth Henry Rollins over breakfast. Following in the footsteps of Primal Scream who last year signed the festival off in a bleary-eyed night of faded euphoria meanwhile are newly outed Sunday night headliners Happy Mondays, who are joined on the bill by perhaps the circuit’s bestest boy behind the decks in Mr. Scruff and cuddly old Joe Goddard will be hurtling about as if he had a thorn in his talons as he brings The 2 Bears down to the woods to put in a DJ spin.

The full musical line up thus far now looks somewhere along these lines:

Hot Chip & Kool & The Gang & Chic featuring Nile Rodgers & Earth, Wind & Fire Experience featuring Al McKay & Happy Mondays & Jimmy Cliff & Rizzle Kicks & Adam Ant & The Good The Mad and The Lovely Posse & Little Dragon & Bellowhead & Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs & The Cuban Brothers & Breakfast With Henry (Henry Rollins Spoken Word) & Mr. Scruff & The 2 Bears & Deliliah & Spector &  Lianne La Havas & Dodgy & Little Roy & Redlight & Josh Kumra & Ryan Keen & Jenny O Stooshe & P Money & Youngman & Jaipur Kawa Brass Band & Dub Pistols & DJ Yoda & The Transiberian Marching Band & Jaipur Kawa Circus & Clement Marfo & The Frontline & DJ Derek & Maya Jane Coles & Scroobius Pip & Random Impulse & Frankie Rose & Liz Green & 3 Bonzos and a Piano & Prince Fatty & We Were Evergreen & 2:54 & Gabrielle Aplin & Pearl And The Beard & Blues Brothers UK & Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo & The Moonflowers & Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer & Duke Special & This Is The Kit.

A multitude of various types of ticket including four-day camping, teen, child, et cetera can be acquired here as of now, while the official Camp Bestival site can be located here.

Returning to the glorious grounds of Dorset’s Lulworth Castle, Rob and Josie da Bank are once again to roll away westwards with the wondrously carnavalesque Camp Bestival. Last year we dined at Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s pop-up River Cottage and wined excessively, while also indulging in bedazzling shows from the likes of Primal Scream, Blondie, and rejuvenated balladeers ABC. Returning to the here and now however, this year we’re to be treated once again to a veritable feast across myriad media: Shrek the Musical is to return following the viridescent ogre’s unprecedentedly popular, if all too short showing last time out; the celebrated Underground Restaurant is to entrench itself somewhere or other within the site; and the English National Ballet are to pirouette around and about punishing hangovers. Musically however things look set to get particularly steamy this time around as Hot Chip regroup to headline Friday night, with further aural highlights coming from the likes of ska vet Jimmy Cliff, swashbuckling glam vet et al. Adam Ant & The Good The Mad and The Lovely PosseSwedish electropop stalwarts Little Dragon, endearing songstress Lianne La Havas, and gloaming with brooding twosome 2:54. There’s also to be breakfast with the inimitable, hock-necked Henry Rollins for those able to stomach it.

Yet more enthralling still however is the da Banks’ envisaging of a stellar Saturday as we’re to be granted the privilege of witnessing a slew of remade and remodelled Motown sensations as part of Camp Bestival’s Saturday Night Fever. Having outshone almost all at Bestival 2010, Chic featuring Nile Rodgers are once again set to deliver what’s sure to be a freakishly brilliant show prior to a rare outing from Kool & The Gang. Last encountered clashing with Beyoncé at Glastonbury, here’s the ideal opportunity to right a wrong and Get Down On It. Preceding those two international treasures is the Earth, Wind & Fire Experience which is to feature the band’s visionary guitarist Al McKay cajoling all into a fantastical Boogie Wonderland.

The full musical line up thus far goes a little something like this:
