Latest Arbutus Records acquisitions TOPS this week release debut full-length Tender Opposites. The Montreal quartet trade in nostalgia-strewn, gentle-paced dreamy, gazy stuff, and the video to album standout Rings of Saturn (shot on a beta cam by Arbutus design chief Jasper Baydala in the band’s hometown) encapsulates the sound perfectly.

Latching onto chord progressions that whiff of both Howard Blake’s Walking in the Air and Abba’s Slipping Through My Fingers, in amongst all that TOPS sound somewhere along the lines of Tennis indulging in a child’s fictitious “chill pill” or Low being reinterpreted by Silly Kissers.
